Multiple sources confirmed to ESPN on Sunday that McCullough, 44, who has been the Los Angeles Dodgers' first base coach since 2021, will replace Skip Schumaker, who parted ways with the Marlins at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
McCullough had been in the running for the Chicago White Sox manager role, but that position went to Will Venable. Although Craig Albernaz, the Cleveland Guardians bench coach, was considered a leading candidate for the Marlins, he later withdrew from consideration.
McCullough brings experience from his time coaching with the Dodgers, including their journey to another World Series title. He previously interviewed for manager roles with several teams, including the Guardians, Royals, Brewers, and Mets.
