Reiger Park Community Reels After Deadly Drive-by Shooting

The Reiger Park community in the Ekurhuleni metro has been left reeling after a drive-by shooting on Saturday night claimed six lives and left three others injured. Police say the suspects, travelling in two vehicles, opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing the scene. Community members are demanding increased police visibility, saying this is but one of the many violent and deadly attacks in the area. A manhunt has been launched for the suspects. The family of a man who took a bullet to save his sons life is inconsolable. The 29-year-old male, who had his son in his arms, died on the spot, falling face-first. However, the bullet missed the toddler and just grazed his little arm. The childs mother Harldene Naidoo says she is heartbroken but commends the deceaseds decision to save their sons life. I am proud of him and I know he didnt think twice about saving our childs life. He had his reasons, but and for that I will forever love and respect him. The sister of the deceased Yolane Naidoo says they found him lying on top of his child. We had to pull our nephew from underneath his father, a very painful and traumatic experience. Grieving family members could be seen sweeping soil over the bloodstains of their loved ones. The street, still covered with patches of blood, stood as a grim reminder of the merciless killings carried out by gunmen who showed no regard for human life. While the motive for the killings is unknown, the local ward councilor Edith Klassen suspects the shooting might be linked to drug peddling and gang violence. There was a shooting last week and I think this incident stems from there because I am struggling to understand what this shooting was about. It is so unfortunate because innocent people have died, three women and a child were among those who died from this shooting. I just dont understand. Gauteng police have since intensified their search for the suspects involved in the deadly drive-by shooting.
