Spanish giants Real Madrid announced the signing of defender Alvaro Carreras from Benfica on a six-year contract on Monday.

The 22-year-old Spanish left-back, who had previously played in Madrids youth academy before moving to Manchester United in 2020, is said to have cost nearly 50 million euros 58 million.

Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alvaro Carreras, who will be under contract with our club for the next six seasons, until 30 June 2031, said Real Madrid in a statement.

During his time at Benfica, the defender made 62 appearances and scored five goals, including an initial loan period before the club signed him permanently for six million euros from United in 2024.

Carreras is the fourth major addition in Madrids significant summer overhaul, following the signings of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen , and Franco Mastantuono, with an estimated total transfer fee of around 170 million euros.
