rawsonville auction sees epic ram sell for r205 million

At Rawsonville's Black Tie Blue Blood auction, Savanna ram Epic sold for a record R2.05 million, drawing national attention to elite small-stock breeding in South Africa, reports Cape town Etc .

According to Farmers Weekly SA the auction took place on 17 April at Die Eike and featured Boer, Kalahari Red and Savanna goats. Epic, Lot 88, came from the Maize Valley stud near Hoopstad and was bought by Koenie and Marina Kotze of Niekerkshoop.

Andrew Roberts said the sale showed the value of breeding quality. The price reflects the value of superior genetic material rather than just the animal's meat production potential, he said.
