The African National Congress ANC says it is happy with the case made by the South African delegation led by President Cyril Ramaphosa to the United States in July.

This is despite the team failing to convince the US administration to lower its proposed tariffs against Pretoria .

The Donald Trump administration has slapped South African goods with a 30 tariff, but has exempted some countries in the Southern African Development Community SADC region. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ANC NEC meeting underway in Germiston east of Johannesburg, a member of the ANC Economic Transformation Committee, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, says they have stated their case, and are now waiting a response from the US government.

We have provided a comprehensive framework on how we can reset that relationship to the extent that it meets our domestic requirements and also how we understood and interpreted what the expectations of the US are. Minister Tau, in his official capacity, is continuing to engage, and we are still to receive a response. So we have placed a proposal on the table and that proposal was stated here in the NEC and it is something that Minister Tau has made public. So I must say we are confident in the ability of the SA delegation, the team has made a compelling framework before the Americans, and we will wait for them to respond.
