Defence Minister Angie Motshekga has assured members of Parliament that concerns about the state of the countrys defence force are being handled at the highest level.
She was speaking when Armscor, her departments agent for the acquisition of defence material, briefed Parliaments Joint Defence Committee on air force and navy maintenance.
Motshekga says the President is concerned about the state of the defence force.
We are aware that we are in real trouble and are constantly engaging the President, because he is also worried. Cabinet is seized with the matter and sees this as a crisis.
Armscor reported a R7.7 billion shortfall for the South African Air Force maintenance.
