ramaphosa questions cape towns bestrun claim

President Cyril Ramaphosa has challenged Cape Town's long-held reputation as South Africa's best-run metro, questioning the city's service delivery record in its poorest communities.

Addressing questions from African National Congress ANC delegate Kenny Mmoiemang, Ramaphosa said government data points to a widening gap between Cape Town's affluent suburbs and its township communities.

Ramaphosa told members of the National Council of Provinces NCOP that while the City of Cape Town is praised for its financial management, new Census data shows it performed the worst between 2011 and 2022 in providing services to disadvantaged areas, as reported by EWN .
