ramaphosa backs new anticorruption body plan

President Cyril Ramaphosa has thrown his weight behind a proposal to create a new independent anti-corruption body, following the final report from the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council.

As outlined in the president's statement , the proposed Office of Public Integrity and Anti-Corruption would be tasked with preventing, investigating and remedying systemic corruption. The recommendation responds to one of the key proposals of the State Capture Commission and aims to address both public and private sector corruption.

The NACAC report also recommends strengthening law enforcement coordination, using artificial intelligence to prevent corruption, and establishing an anti-corruption data-sharing framework. These proposals will now be reviewed by relevant government institutions for deliberation in Cabinet.
