r46bn loss sparks cidb probe into kzn construction sector

The Construction Industry Development Board CIDB has launched an urgent probe into the KwaZulu-Natal construction sector, following explosive revelations that highly-rated contractors have failed to deliver on critical infrastructure projects.

The board says that this is now costing the province an estimated R4.6 billion.

Meanwhile, Transport MEC Siboniso Duma, has alleged that some of these entities may have fraudulently bought their high-level grading certificates, allowing them to secure massive tenders - while they lacked the actual capacity to complete the job.
