The African Travel Tourism Association ATTA has released a new white paper Too Close for Comfort: Rethinking Human-Wildlife Boundaries for a Sustainable African Future addressing the growing issue of tourists getting too close for comfort to wild animals.
ATTA CEO Kgomotso Ramothea said: Getting too close is one of the sectors greatest risks. Setting clear, respectful boundaries enables local operators to lead the world in delivering wildlife experiences that are ethical and more meaningful.
Developed with input from EcoTraining, Great Plains Conservation, Marine Dynamics and Pangolin.Africa, the white paper introduces a 4D framework distance, duration, density and directional freedom alongside practical tools such as guest briefings, sightings logs and self-assessment checklists.
