The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa PRASA says it invested R21.1 billion in capital expenditure during the 2024/25 financial year, nearly double its budgeted allocation of R11.6 billion. The agency described this as a key step in renewing its fleet, restoring infrastructure and modernising its systems, reports Cape town Etc .

PRASA's Group Chief Executive, Hishaam Emeran, told journalists that the investment not only supported service recovery but also helped sustain thousands of jobs SA News .

According to the agency, its capital programme created 12 988 direct jobs and generated a further 71 730 opportunities across the wider economy, bringing the total impact to 84 718 jobs for the year.
