Police Hunt For Gunmen After Shooting At Athlone Mosque

The Western Cape police are reeling from a tragic shooting incident that unfolded in the parking lot adjacent to the Gatesville Mosque in Athlone, claiming the life of a 35-year-old woman on Saturday, 3 May 2025.

The victim, identified as an administrative clerk with Kraaifontein SAPS, was shot at around 13:45pm on Saturday, leaving the community in shock and mourning, reports. Cape town Etc .

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, the shooting also left a 56-year-old woman seriously injured.

She was rushed to a medical facility for treatment, although further details about her condition have not been disclosed, Pojie said.

In the wake of the incident, Athlone police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder that will be investigated by detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit.
