The SAPS is confident that it has a watertight case against the former municipal manager of the uMzimkhulu Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.
The 55-year-old man was re-arrested on Monday in connection with the gunning down of the African National Congress Youth League secretary Sindiso Magaqa .
He will appear in a local magistrates court today.
The man was previously arrested in 2018 alongside several others, including the late mayor of the municipality, Mluleki Ndobe. One of the accused, a hitman, was recently sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
The national police spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says, From the onset, weve always had overwhelming evidence. However, unfortunately, the charges were withdrawn in court, citing insufficient evidence. We feel that we have additional information, its not necessarily new information because weve always maintained that the former municipal manager, as well as the late mayor who committed suicide and a certain businessman were the masterminds behind the killing of Sindiso Magaqa. So, we are expecting him to be charged again with murder and so on.
