Test captain Shan Masood will now be taking up a dual role after being appointed as the new Director of International Cricket Operations by the Pakistan Cricket Board PCB. He recently led Pakistan in the two-match Test series against South Africa, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
A PCB source said on Friday that after discussions within the board there was a clear consensus that Shan is the best man to lead the international cricket affairs department. It is a rare occurrence as not too many individuals have been appointed in an administrator's role while playing for the national team.
Sources in Pakistan cricket say the announcement was made by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi during a dinner meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who was visited on Friday by the Pakistan team as well as the touring members of the South African squad.
