Parliament says it will relook at its processes following the Western Cape High Court judgment that found MK Party parliamentary leader, Doctor John Hlophe, was not eligible to serve on the Judicial Services Commission.

Hlophe, who is the former Western Cape High Court Judge President, was found guilty of gross misconduct by the JSC and subsequently impeached by Parliament in 2024.

Despite that, he was designated to the JSC, as nominated by his party and voted for by the National Assembly.

The court had ruled that the National Assemblys decision to designate Dr Hlophe from among its members to the JSC was unconstitutional, invalid and therefore reviewed and set aside.

Parliaments spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says parliament will ensure that in future all designations to constitutional bodies comply with the constitutional principles outlined in the court ruling.
