Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says the provincial government will act within the law during its planned evictions of people from informal settlements.
In a statement on Sunday 7 September, the South African Human Rights Commission SAHRC criticised Lesufi for vowing to dismantle these informal settlements at 2 a.m., saying such conduct is inhumane, degrading and dangerous.
It is likely to expose families to criminality, trauma and displacement, and erodes the very foundations of our constitutional democracy, it added.
