The Florida Panthers and one of their key free agents have come to terms on a new deal.

On Monday, just hours before the NHL Free Agency period is set to open, Florida and defenseman Aaron Ekblad came to terms on a long-term contract extension.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, Florida has signed Ekblad to a new eight-year extension that carries an average annual value AAV of 6.1 million.
The Panthers originally selected Ekblad with the first overall selection at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
