Dr Sam Motsuenyane, who has been widely hailed as a pioneering force in business and whose lifes work significantly shaped the landscape of entrepreneurship and empowerment in South Africa, passed away on Wednesday, aged 97.

Dr Motsuenyane was a founding member of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce (NAFCOC) in 1964, an organisation that stands as a testament to his enduring legacy in advocating for economic justice and business acumen among African entrepreneurs, the Black Energy Professionals Association (Bepa) has said.

His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment have left an indelible mark on the business landscape of South Africa.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr Motsuenyane championed the principles of unity, economic empowerment, and self-reliance.

His efforts were pivotal in shaping the policies that support black entrepreneurship in South Africa today. His legacy will continue to inspire current and future generations of business leaders. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his remarkable life and contributions.

The association said in a statement eulogising Dr Motsuenyane that he inspired the creation of Bepa.

He believed we are stronger as a collective, and can champion and make meaningful contributions to society.
