The National Union of Mineworkers NUM members at Samancors Waterkloof Operations in Rustenburg will today march to the companys offices in North West, as the strike enters its second week.
The workers are demanding that the company equalise its wages between all Samancor mines and smelters.
The NUM on Friday rejected a wage offer by the company and will today march alongside the community, which is also accusing the mine of not providing business opportunities to local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises SMMES
The Unions' Rustenburg Regional Chairperson, July Radibe says, "We are demanding a better living wage for our members, as NUM. In terms of commodities, platinum is not doing well- chrome is actually doing better than platinum these days, so we will negotiate with Samancor for a better living wage for our members."
Radibe says, "We know that double digit in this point in time is not possible, but we are saying they should really come to the board in terms of us negotiating. As for the locals - members believe that Samancor is not actually opening up business opportunities for everyone- theyre focusing on certain individuals."
