The Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL has handed heavy punishments to Kano Pillars Football Club following the violent incidents during their Matchday 8 home game against Shooting Stars Sports Club 3SC at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 13, and signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the league found Kano Pillars guilty of multiple rule violations, including failure to provide adequate security, poor control of fans, throwing dangerous objects, assaulting players and officials, and misconduct that brought the game into disrepute.
As punishment, the NPFL imposed a total fine of ?9.5m on the club and ordered a three-point and three-goal deduction from their total points. The Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano has also been closed indefinitely, forcing the team to play its remaining home matches in Katsina or at another approved venue for at least ten games.
