The National Prosecuting Authority in the Northern Cape says seven people, including high-ranking provincial Health Department officials and a company, Asijiki Soundbytes, have appeared in court in connection with the alleged irregular procurement of personal protective equipment PPE worth millions of rands in 2020.
NPA spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane says the accused include former Head of Department, Dr Dion Theys, and the departments former CFO, Mosimanegape Daniel Gaborone.
Senokoatsane says they face charges including contravention of the PFMA, fraud, corruption, money laundering, and contraventions of the Medicines and Related Substances Act.
