There is no need to delay the initial registration of a new car because this will not change its model year or future resale value, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association NADA.

NADA flagged a persistent misconception among buyers and dealers in a statement on Wednesday 17 December as the year winds down.

The often repeated, but incorrect, narrative suggests that purchasing a new vehicle late in the year and only registering it in the following year will result in the car being documented as a newer model year, thereby retaining more resale value, the Association said.
