Nigeria has reinforced its commitment to digital security as the National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA , in partnership with Google, convened a two-day Cybersecurity Workshop in Abuja.

The workshop brought together government officials, industry experts, and cybersecurity stakeholders to review Nigeria's existing frameworks, assess critical vulnerabilities, and explore opportunities for collaboration. The initiative comes at a time when Nigeria's fast-growing digital economy requires stronger protective measures to safeguard citizens, support innovation, and maintain trust in digital platforms.

Representing NITDA's Director General, Dr. Ayodele Bakare, Assistant Director of the Cybersecurity Department, emphasized that the workshop aligns with national efforts to strengthen cyber governance. He noted that the country has established key instruments-including the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act 2015, amended 2024, the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy, and several sector-specific regulations such as the National PKI Regulation and the Nigerian Data Protection Act. According to NITDA, coordinated implementation across sectors remains central to improving national resilience.
