Lemala Camps and Lodges has opened its newest property, Lemala Osonjoi Lodge, positioned on the eastern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater. Located at nearly 2 500 metres above sea level and adjacent to Lemala Gate, the lodge offers direct and early access to the crater floor via what Lemala says is the least-used descent road.
The solar-powered lodge has been developed in partnership with local communities. Osonjoi was created to feel like it belongs here not imposed on the landscape but emerging naturally from it, said Leanne Haigh , CEO of Lemala Camps and Lodges.
The property features 20 suites, including two family units. Rooms are equipped with walk-in showers, freestanding tubs, fireplaces, wood stoves, winter-weight duvets and secret nook day beds.
Public spaces include a library, outdoor deck and an indoor heated pool located in the forest spa suite. The off-grid lodge is constructed from recycled and locally sourced materials with no single-use plastics.
Guests can access the crater floor within 20 to 25 minutes. The north-eastern descent road allows for early entry and later exits for optimal wildlife viewing and photography. The lodge also has permission to serve fully catered private lunches on the Crater floor.
