In its emails to subscribers, Netflix did not provide reasons for the price increases. However, it states on its website that plans and pricing may change as we continue to improve our service and add more TV shows and movies.

"Adjustments can also happen in response to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation, it adds.

The adjustments for each plan are as follows:

  • Premium: 15 hike from R199 to R229 per month - up by R30.
  • Standard: 13 hike from R159 to R179 per month - up by R20.
  • Mobile: 20 hike from R49 to R59 per month - up by R10. This is its first ever increase.
  • Basic: No change - remains at R99 per month.

Netflix has also updated its plans and pricing website to reflect the latest adjustments.

The changes will generally take effect on your next billing date.
