The National Financial Ombud Scheme has warned motorists that insurance companies will reject their claims if they get involved in a crash while under the influence of alcohol .
It says this is regardless of not being breathalyzed or blood-tested at the scene of the crash. Insurance companies are increasingly using tracking data, bank statements, and witness reports to reject claims on the balance of probabilities.
So, in the contract that youve signed and that youve agreed to, youve agreed to certain things as the insured. One of them is that you will not drive under the influence of alcohol. So it goes further to, you know, under the influence of alcohol or with your blood limit exceeding the limit. So its not only exceeding the limit, but its also just a general statement under the influence and thats what youve agreed to. If you drive under the influence, you will not be paid for your claim, says the schemes head Reana Steyn.
