The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Namibia has marked a significant step toward digital transformation with the migration from physical SIM cards to electronic SIM e-SIM technology, following the launch by Minister Emma Teophelus two months ago.
E-SIMs are embedded directly into mobile devices, allowing users to activate mobile plans without the need for a physical card. The technology also enables multiple SIM profiles on a single device while enhancing security for mobile subscribers.
The initiative saw participation from the ministry's leadership, including Interim Executive Director Linda Aipinge and Director of Audio-Visual Media Roselia Penda, who were among the first to register their e-SIMs. The rollout reflects Namibia's commitment to modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure and promoting convenience, flexibility, and digital innovation for users across the country.
