Elon Musks artificial intelligence startup, xAI, has laid off at least 500 workers from its data annotation unit, Business Insider reported on Friday.
The team had been responsible for training Grok, xAIs chatbot, by contextualizing and labeling raw data. Laid-off staff were told they would be paid until November 30, but access to systems ended immediately.
The company said it plans to scale its specialist AI tutor team 10X, even as reports confirmed the recent exit of xAIs finance chief Mike Liberatore.
