MTN Group has begun deploying artificial intelligence across its network in Nigeria as part of a broader Africa-wide plan to transform operations and boost service quality.
Under its MTN Genova strategy, the telecoms giant says AI will help manage network traffic, detect faults automatically, and optimise energy use across data centres. The company's new Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence will lead the effort, supported by over 300 engineers developing scalable, responsible AI solutions.
AI is not just about automation - it's reshaping how we create value and compete globally, said Mazen Mroue, MTN Group's Chief Digital Infrastructure Officer. He added that the rollout aligns with projections that AI could add as much as 1.5 trillion to Africa's economy by 2030.
MTN says its focus includes generative AI and local language models, aiming to make digital services more inclusive while boosting productivity and driving down operational costs.
