Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Dada Morero, says powerful syndicates are behind the Citys hijacked buildings. He says the municipality is working with police and stakeholders to dismantle them.
Johannesburg currently has approximately 200 hijacked buildings in its inner city. These structures, are often illegally occupied by criminal syndicates, represent a severe humanitarian and safety crisis marked by hazardous living conditions, and lack of basic services.
Morero says theyre working on addressing challenges related to hijacked buildings.
