The African Transformation Movement ATM has laid a complaint with the Public Protector against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
This follows KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi s stunning allegations against Mchunu over the weekend.
Mkhwanazi claimed the Ministers disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team in December 2024 was influenced by a criminal syndicate operating in Gauteng.
The syndicate allegedly involves politicians who are currently serving in Parliament , officials of the South African Police Service SAPS, metro police and Department of Correctional Services, as well as prosecutors and the judiciary, Mkhwanazi claimed.
He also revealed alleged WhatsApp messages allegedly linking Mchunu to Brown Mogotsi, who he claimed is Mchunus associate.
Mogotsi was allegedly communicating Task Team-related police information with murder-accused businessman Vusimuzi CAT Matlala, who is financially supporting Mchunu and Mogotsis political endeavours.
Mchunu has denied the allegations, describing them as baseless.
ATM files Public Protector complaint against Senzo MchunuHowever, ATM has now written to the Public Protector, Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka , to request a full-scale investigation into what appears to be one of the most flagrant episodes of executive misconduct, political interference and abuse of power in the history of democratic South Africa.
The allegations against Mchunu are not speculative, the partys member of Parliament Vuyo Zungula wrote in the letter dated Monday, 7 July 2025.
They are backed by digital communication records, WhatsApp messages, voice recordings, financial documentation, intercepted data and operational reports, he added.
