African National Congress ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu has described the late Women's League Deputy President, Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe as a remarkable leader who will be remembered for her commitment to gender equality, peace and unity.
Bhengu is amongst the ANC leadership visiting the home of Mnganga-Gcabashe who died at the weekend after a short illness at her home in Westville in Durban.
Mnganga-Gcabashe has also served as the provincial chairperson of the ANC Womens League in KwaZulu-Natal and chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises and most recently as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Tourism.
Her election as the deputy president of the ANC Womens League came in 2023.
Here we are talking about someone who really, really worked hard to be recognized for her commitment to service, her commitment to gender equality and peace. One of the peacemakers of our time. I must also indicate that of course she was the Deputy President of the ANCs Womens League. There was a significant moment in the history of the Womens League at the last conference where she was elected Deputy President, which we phrase as a beachhead moment simply because it marked the revival of the ANCWL, Bhengu elaborates.
