The Midvaal Municipality in Meyerton , south of Johannesburg has vowed to intensify enforcement operations to safeguard communities and ensure businesses operate lawfully.
This comes after a number of businesses were shut down and fines issued, during a compliance operation involving the municipality, police and health and compliance inspectors.
During the operation the municipality says it discovered shops selling expired food. Midvaal Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira says they also discovered some premises selling drugs.
