mbalula reads riot act to anc caucus over calls to expel da from gnu

African National Congress ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has criticised some members of the partys caucus in Parliament for allegedly leaking internal discussions to the media.

On Sunday 4 May, City Press reported that the caucus had expressed strong opposition to the continued presence of the Democratic Alliance DA in the government of national unity GNU.

This follows the DA voting against the budgets fiscal framework in Parliament last month. It also filed a court challenge against Parliaments adoption of the framework.

No caucus can revolt against ANC

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Mbalula said ANC members must be disciplined and respect their own party.

Leaking information to the media is detrimental to the cohesion of our movement, because that leakage is a distortion, and I've said to the media that there is no caucus of the ANC that can revolt against the ANC, he said.

There is no caucus of the ANC that can rebel against the ANC. People have got a choice to join other political parties. Those members of the caucus have been disciplined. They took an order from their party.

Mbalula said he respects the views of the caucus and will share those views with the ANCs top 7 officials as well as the National Working Committee NWC.

Although the NWC decided recently to bring other parties to the GNU, this has not yet happened. The ANCs engagements with other political parties have instead focused on the budget.

The DA has claimed credit for Finance Minister Enoch Godongwanas decision to reverse his proposed value-added tax increase. However, the ANC insists the decision was the result of its engagements with parties.

The two parties continue to clash on various other transformation -related issues, the latest being amendments to the Employment Equity Act.
