The Democratic Alliance DA says their Promotion of Access to Information Act PAIA application into the disciplinary case involving Deputy President Paul Mashatiles VIP protection unit exposes a breakdown in accountability in the police service and a cover up.
The eight officers were filmed assaulting passengers and the driver of a car on the N1 , in Johannesburg in 2023.
They were acquitted by the police service in May following an internal disciplinary process.
The DA says the information it has acquired shows that instead of a swift and transparent disciplinary process, the case descended into what it calls a two-year circus of postponements, procedural chaos and excuses.
The DA says it was not just an administrative failure, but a deliberate failure of justice.
