Deputy President Paul Mashatile emphasized the vast opportunities for countries in the Global South during his valedictory speech at the two-day annual Cape Town Conversations conference, hosted by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation and the Observer Research Foundation. The event, held in Somerset West near Cape Town, is in its second year and serves as a platform for dialogue among stakeholders from the Global South. This year's conference coincided with South Africas upcoming presidency of the G20, starting the following week.
Mashatile highlighted that the Global South holds significant potential for growth, citing steady economic growth, openness to new ideas, and strong political will as key factors. He described the region as a "ray of hope," where transformative policies can thrive, and stressed the immense opportunities for development and advancement in these countries.
