The judicial commission of inquiry into criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system says its findings and recommendations will not be legally binding.

President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission in July to investigate allegations made by South African Police Service KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi .

It is expected to start holding public hearings on 17 September, with retired Constitutional Court justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga as its chairperson.
