Specialised shipper MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH Co. and Hugo Stinnes STINNES Schiffahrt CHIFFAHRT GmbH STINNES, key players in multipurpose MPP liner services, have merged.

Operating as MACS Maritime Carrier Shipping GmbH Co. MACS the company will manage a fleet of over 15 vessels, covering more than 20 ports across 16 countries, with headquarters in Hamburg.

The merger combines the companies fleet and logistics capabilities to strengthen transatlantic shipping operations.

This strategic merger represents a significant milestone for both sister companies and is expected to deliver substantial value to customers, employees and shareholders, MACS has said in a statement.

By combining complementary strengths in fleet capabilities, logistics networks, and environmental innovation, MACS will be uniquely positioned to lead the future of sustainable and resilient Trans-Atlantic shipping.

MACS will serve as the universal legal successor to STINNES, automatically assuming all contracts, rights, liabilities, and obligations.

This merger brings together two respected organisations with shared values and a focus on safety and sustainability, MACS Managing Director, Dietrich Scheder-Bieschin said.

The company advised clients in a statement:

As a result of the merger, MACSbecomes the universal successor to STINNESwith all contracts, rights, liabilities and obligations of STINNEStransferring automatically to MACSby operation of law. There is no need for customers or service providers to take any action unless otherwise notified. All invoices, correspondence, and communications relating to such contracts should, from the effective date onward, be directed to MACS in Hamburg.

The well-known Stinnes MPP Service 'SANMEX' between North Europe and Mexico / US Gulf v.v. will be renamed in 'STINNES Service' keeping the 200 years old brand name alive.

STINNES Headquarters in Rostock will be closed by December 31. STINNES Employees will operate from the joint Hamburg Office as from January 1, 2026.
