In a dramatic development following one of the most audacious art thefts in modern history, French authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the multi-million-euro jewel heist at the Louvre museum in Paris.

The arrests come just days after a gang of thieves used power tools to break into the worlds most-visited museum in broad daylight, making off with priceless crown jewels and exposing significant security flaws.

According to details from the Paris prosecutors office, one of the men was taken into custody at Charles de Gaulle Airport. Police sources indicated the suspect was preparing to take a flight to Algeria when he was detained. A second individual, understood to be heading to Mali, was also arrested on Saturday evening.
