A late penalty from Tshegofatso Mabasa denied Mamelodi Sundowns a return to the top of the Betway Premiership as Stellenbosch FC fought back to secure a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.
Sundowns looked set to capitalise on their game in hand over Orlando Pirates after taking control of the contest for long stretches, but a lapse in concentration late on proved costly. The result leaves them second on 57 points, one behind Pirates, who benefited from the slip despite not being in action.
Fresh from booking their place in the CAF Champions League final, the Brazilians rotated their line-up, restoring several key players, including Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Marcelo Allende.
