The KwaZulu-Natal Transport Department is intensifying its road safety operations as it cracks down on traffic violations ahead of New Years Eve celebrations. Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says the departments festive season operations have resulted in a 9 decrease in fatalities compared to the same period last year.
Sibiya says around 2 800 drunk drivers have been arrested since mid-December.
He says in the latest operation they took several vehicles with fraudulent permits off the road at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza in Durban.
