KwaZulu-Natals estimated electricity demand is about 6 700 MW with a supply shortfall of between 400 MW and 470 MW, according to Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Nomalungelo Gina during the KwaZulu-Natal Energy Indaba on March 18.
Gina said the supply gap reflects the difference between available electricity and current demand in the province.
Government has set a target to develop 5 000 MW of renewable energy capacity in KwaZulu-Natal by 2030 as part of plans to increase the countrys electricity generation capacity, she added.
