judge orders indemnity hearing for joshlin smith state witness

The state in six-year-old Joshlin Smiths disappearance case says it is ready to lead expert and victim statement evidence. Sentencing procedures will start in the Western Cape High Court in Saldanha Bay on Tuesday next week.

The convicted human traffickers, the girls mother Kelly Smith as well as Jacquen Appollis and Steveno van Rhyn appeared in court in Cape Town this morning ahead of their sentencing. The state has indicated that it will call an expert in human trafficking.

Judge Nathan Erasmus also says that there will be a separate hearing on whether the former accused, turned state witness, Lourentia Lombard will be granted indemnity.

Meanwhile, the lawyer for Appollis, Advocate Fannie Harmse says that the only possible witness they intend to call is his clients mother.
