Johannesburg Emergency Services have urged residents to avoid river streams used for baptisms and cleansing rituals, as heavy rains continue across the province.
The South African Weather Services SAWS upgraded its Orange level 5 warning to Level 9 for heavy downpours.
The rain is expected to cause localised flooding in parts of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, while the Level 5 warning also remains in place for the Free State, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal.
