The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department JMPD has urged motorists to play their part in ensuring safety on roads. This comes as many people are returning from various destinations. Some motorists are still reported to be driving under the influence of alcohol.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says roadblocks will remain in place in various hotspots.
Motorists travelling within the City of Johannesburg are reminded to comply with traffic regulations and municipal by-laws. Most importantly, they are warned against driving under the influence of alcohol. Apart from facing legal consequences such as arrest, fines, or the suspension of a drivers licence, intoxicated driving could result in serious or even fatal accidents, says Fihla.
