A close relative has been arrested for the murder of 11-year-old Jayden Lee Meek, whose body was found near his Fleurhof home in May. The 31-year-old woman was taken into custody Friday and faces murder charges, Cape town Etc reports.
Jayden vanished after school on 28 May, sparking massive community searches. His naked body was discovered the next day on the staircase of Swazi Place Complex, where he lived.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the breakthrough: A case of murder was opened and police conducted investigations which led to the arrest of the woman .
CapeTalk reports that the arrest follows months of pressure from angry Fleurhof residents who accused police of slow progress.
Just hours before the arrest, the community held a candlelight vigil demanding justice for the boy.
