The Information Regulator IR is poised to escalate its legal battle against the publication of matric results for 2025, following a significant ruling by the full bench of the Pretoria High Court.
The court recently dismissed the IRs bid to block the Department of Basic Education DBE from publishing results in newspapers using examination numbers, deeming the enforcement notice and an infringement notice that could have imposed a R5 million fine as void.
This legal tussle is rooted in concerns over the protection of learners personal information, particularly regarding how their data is managed and disclosed.
