india offers cash reward for womens cricket champions

Indias cricket board announced a cash reward of 5.75 million on Monday for the womens team following their successful World Cup campaign. In front of a packed house at Mumbais DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, the host nation defeated South Africa by 52 runs, claiming their first one-day international ODI World Cup title.

Devajit Saikia, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI, said the funds were awarded as a token of appreciation for the womens team and would be distributed among the players, support staff, and selectors involved.

The Indian womens team, having achieved victory on their third attempt after being runners-up in 2005 and 2017, has already been awarded 4.48 million in prize money from the International Cricket Council ICC, a remarkable 239 per cent increase from the 1.32 million given to Australia in 2022.
