The legendary Ravichandran Ashwin feels that India will have to take a call on Shubman Gill's place in the T20 team if he fails in the last two matches against South Africa. However, he wondered how difficult a decision it would be to remove the Indian vice-captain from the side, especially with the T20 World Cup being just two months away.
Shubman's dismal form with the bat continued on Sunday, December 14, as he scored a run-a-ball 28 against South Africa at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Since he returned to the T20 setup ahead of the Asia Cup in September and was named vice-captain in the format, Shubman has scored just 291 runs in 15 matches at an average of 24.25 and a strike rate of 137.26.
During the ongoing five-match series against the Proteas, the right-handed batter has aggregated just 32 runs in three innings at an average of 10.67 and a strike rate of 103.23.
