The International Cricket Council ICC pace bowler Harshit Rana for an incident that took place during the first One-Day International ODI between India and South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi on Sunday, November 30, as the hosts won the match by 17 runs. A provocative gesture was the reason behind the reprimand.
Harshit was found guilty of breaching the Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to the provocation of an aggressive reaction or disparage from a batter upon their dismissal during an international match caused due to the usage of language, gestures, and/or actions by the bowler or any other teammate.
The event took place during the 22nd over of South Africa's chase in the Ranchi encounter, when the India bowler gestured South Africa's Dewald Brevis to depart towards the dressing room after the latter was dismissed. Match referee Richie Richardson took a note of this gesture and sanctioned Rana for his provocative remark.
